Our five elephants have each walked a difficult road. They need gentle hands, patient hearts, and people who simply care.
At Sapana Elephant Care, volunteering isn't a program on a schedule — it's a relationship. You spend real time with real elephants: learning their names, understanding their histories, and becoming part of the daily rhythm of care that keeps them healthy and happy.
No two days look the same. But every day matters.
"Every elephant here carries a story. As a volunteer, you become part of the next chapter — one of healing, dignity, and belonging."
Sapana Elephant Care Team
Srijana Kali has a calm, steady presence that puts everyone around her at ease. Spending time with her is one of the most grounding experiences a volunteer can have — she is patient, wise, and deeply gentle.
True to her name, Chanchal Kali is lively and full of spirit. She keeps volunteers on their toes with her playful energy — especially during the daily river bath, where she truly comes alive.
Champa Kali is curious and expressive. She notices everything around her and has a way of making every volunteer feel seen. Getting to know her daily rhythms and preferences is one of the quiet joys of being here.
Samrat Gaj — "King Elephant" — needs your support right now. He deserves proper care, safety, and a life of dignity. Your help, however small, makes a real difference to him every single day.
Help Samrat GajMaya Kali was rescued with a disability and has come so far. But her journey is not over — she still needs ongoing care and attention every day. You can be part of her recovery story.
Help Maya KaliSamrat Gaj and Maya Kali both need ongoing support and care. You can help them directly — just send us an email and we will personally explain how your contribution reaches them.

Help gather, prepare, and deliver fresh food for each elephant. You learn quickly that elephants have preferences — and opinions — about what they like.
Work alongside our care team to observe and note each elephant's daily wellbeing, behaviour, and physical condition. Your attentive eyes matter.
Help maintain the sanctuary grounds — clean, safe, and enriching spaces for our elephants to roam, rest, and explore freely.
Sometimes the most important thing you can offer is simply your presence. Elephants are deeply social; being near them, calm and unhurried, is care in itself.
Help record daily notes, photographs, and observations that build a long-term picture of each elephant's health and character over time.
Every day, we take our elephants to the river. It is one of the most joyful, grounding, and unforgettable parts of life here. Elephants love water — they splash, they soak, they play. As a volunteer you walk alongside them, help scrub them down, and share in a moment of pure, unhurried happiness. It is the kind of experience you carry with you long after you leave.
Nepal's elephants face real pressures — loss of habitat, exploitation, and neglect. By volunteering at Sapana, you become part of a living answer to these challenges.
We'd love to hear from you. Whether you're planning a visit to Chitwan or looking for a meaningful long-term commitment, just reach out — we'll talk about how you can help.
We welcome volunteers of all backgrounds. No specific skills are required — only genuine care for animals and a willingness to show up.
